Dione
Borg was born in Mosta in 1952. His interest in art
started at a very early age. He received formal
training at the Malt School of Art under Esprit Barthet,
Harry Alden and Anton Agius. After a span of 19 years
living in Canada, Dione is now back with us in Malta.
Although Dione is mostly interested in figurative art, his
concern isn't to reproduce nature, but to interpret it.
Dione's aim is to paint images of reality "in such a way as
to invite our participation in it". He uses his brush
stroke as a poet uses words. His loose layering of
colour gives expression and strength to his paintings.
his colours are both vibrant and delicate and forms melt
into hazy backgrounds. Thick paint adds a rich texture
to his work. The human figure has always been a
preferred topic, and this resulted into a keen interest in
portraiture. Dione sees his sitter as a unique
creation and he doesn't only try to capture the likeness,
but most importantly something of the soul. |
